So I have just started NSBM2 modding and have a few questions.

1. Is changing the 3DS home menu banner impossible?

2. Is the background of the main menu of NSMB2 hard code?

3. How could I best edit characters or is that not possible? I assume I would need some 3D sculpting software and some copy paste coding skills.

4. I found a video on adding music but its pretty complicated surely its easier then this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4A6PlyD6uk

Ok, That's it! thanks for any help!

1. Possible, but i think at the moment no (or i didn't find the file).

2. No, it's a model file (.bcres).

3. You need NW4C tools (warez) to create models. But you can retexture them with ohana3ds.

1. Yes, but you need to dump with decrypt9 instead of braindump as decrypt9 is able to dump things such as the banner, the embedded manual and other things.

2. No, it's a model file (.bcres).
No it isn't a .bcres file, it is a layout file. Not sure which one tho.

3. Warez.

I mean the titlescreen background is one of the nohara backgrounds/models.

Model generation can also be done with EFE, but I recommend you stay away from it as hard as you can.
That feature is Beta as fuck, and will never be finished (especially seeing how it didn't get updated for 2 years already, and Gericom doesn't care about ROM Hacking anymore).

If someone would develope that feature until the end, that would be awesome.

^Good luck finding someone willing to do that, those model formats are pretty complex.

Yeah, thats about as simple as it gets.
Although that tutorial misses a step, if you want stuff to loop correctly, when hex editing you need offset 0x61 to have a value of 0x01.
As for setting individual loop points as to allow for an into part to the song, I don't know how you do that, but know it is possible.

I never knew how to loop multichannel .bcstms. I'll try it out tommorow.

Well, I'm developing a tool for MKDS and MK7 hacking, it will include BCRES generator, which should work for other games also.
Though for now, it can only show KMP values.

I'm using the GTKmm 3.0 library for the GUI, and there's almost no documentation about it, so you should assume how hard it can be to make something, sometimes (and once done, it feels very rewarding).

We'll this is sad. I was hoping I could just turn a .mp3 file into a .bcres but not so. If anyone has any experience and could do this for me it would be great!

Edit: Wrong file name! I ment audio.

.bcres is a model file.

I think you mean .bcstm (3ds Background Music).
You can convert .mp3 to .wav,
.wav to .bcstm

But some games like New Super Mario Bros. 2 uses multichannel .bcstms

Ya, that's what I ment. If you try it today tell me how it goes! (Also I wish you didsnt have to get rid of one music file to use a custom one...)

I have seen that vid. I stopped when the song I was playing didn't indicate how many channels it had.

All level songs will always be 5 channels, Left + right Main channels, Left + right Tanooki drum channels, Gold ring channel.
All other songs are 2 channels iirc, Just a left and a right channel.
